Frits Schrauwen our Belgium marine electricians wiring starts to be installed in the base of the Navigation Centre JENAL is primarily be a 220/240 volt barge with 12 and 24v for the engines facilities. The room below the stairs is the dedicated electrics room and contains the large and heavy 12 x 2 volt (= 24v) traction batteries and all the electrical equipment from trip fuse box's to battery chargers. We designed the layout so that there is a small cable run across the hallway enabling the 2 engines dedicated start batteries to be placed here. Benefiting from a much cooler environment then an engine-room can offer. |
STARBOARD SIDE |
The prime thinking here is, the building
of a separate and dedicated
room for all the electrical equipment, away from vibration and heat, is
the safest long-term design. In this way, the
Vitron equipment has a greater chance of longevity which in-turn should reduce
running costs.
Frits adds the second level of 12/24v controls into the navigation centre, leaving enough room between the first and second layer for the hydraulic steering pump etc. |
The left picture of the engine room gave Frits his first concern, "how do I make all this work?" He just sat down and worked it all out on paper, first and the rest followed... given enough time :-)
The pictures on the right show the installation of Vitron 220/240v AC system which is close coupled to the DC system so Frits had to install and basically wire up the AC system for Energy Solutions to install the domestic electrics in the UK
